NEWEST WORK: Freedom & Fr(agility) series
2025 - present
I’ve never been good at decluttering. Thank God for the woods, the river, lakes, and the ocean, as they don't need me to organize them. My work visualizes an all-encompassing internal dialogue that is quieted, only in nature. My photographs and handmade page spreads are the opposite of slick magazines, subverting polished, executive recipes for success, beauty routines, or ads, even while using the same expressive tools. Unleashed from my mind onto the page, consumerism, the 24/7 news cycle, grind culture, the demands of hyper-organization, and the invisible mental load of caretaking reflect the necessary internal load of modern daily existence. The adjoining photographs present a direct contrast: more refined, hyper-real portrayals but of a casually grounded, immersive, and peaceful presence in nature. They show mysterious, and even playful concoctions, sometimes set out as absurd offerings or questions to the wilderness. Guidance needed; inquire here.
I carry my materials with me everywhere, photographing, sketching, or painting on the fly, wading through noisy pressures, the demands of rigid daily schedules, and societal expectations in search of a sense of presence. Combining photographs with journal pages (or my voice narration in videos) feels like making my own handmade digest: displays of human interaction in and with nature on one side, and my internal tensions visualized on the other. This exposes external desires for liberation in messes, moments of wildness, the latitude to play, and the creative swirl of it all: the amalgam of the world we plunge ourselves into on the daily.
