The culture of Botswana emphasizes dialogue among its citizens. Here this grassroots organization, the PTA, whose members are often illiterate, share past cultural traditions and discuss strategies to achieve literacy by 2015. A PTA parent told me, “It is immoral not to educate your children about HIV/AIDS.”
